Activities

The multi and single pitch climbing area of La Grande Falaise is a short walk from our apartments in Les Contamines. The is a large single pitch and protected area with belay chains and bolts for the beginners and various single and multi pitch routes with and without protection for the more accomplished climber. We have the local guide book with the climbs and grades. There are several other climbing areas within a short drive.

In case of bad weather there is also a great indoor climbing wall in Les Houches just a 25 min drive away.

The nearby snow capped mountains of the Tre La Tete glacier can be reached from our apartments on foot. Famous routes such as the Domes de Miage Traverse and Mont Tondu can be attained by novices being led by instructors who will complete the trainng on the safer lower glacier prior to attempting the high peaks and ridges. There are mountain Refuges available to sleep and eat thereby reducing the weight of bag required to be carried. We can reserve these huts for you and have personal experience of leading groups up the main routes including Mont Blanc..

Les Contamines is surrounded by forests and mountains including a large nature reserve. There are numerous routes for trekking and most pass by beautiful waterfalls or lakes where you can pop in for a swim! During the summer months many of the wooden shack style cabin restaurants are open where you can relax and have lunch or to save money take a picnic. One of the lakes is even heated and has a small bar beside it.

Les Contamines is surrounded by a beautiful National Park with numerous mountain bike routes at village height and high up in the mountains. During the summer school holidays there is even a bike rack on the open ski lift if you don’t want to cycle up the main hill. We can hire the mountain bikes and safety equipment to you if you do not bring your own and have knowledge/maps of the most popular routes.
